Sexually transmitted diseases are the group of diseases transferred from one person to another via sexual contact. It doesn’t mean that the only way of their transmission is sexual intercourse but most the infections agents causing them are sometimes transferred via this mode. The main cause behind these sexual infectious diseases is an attack of viruses, bacteria and fungi. These agents enter the body disturbs the normal mechanism of the body. Most of them are life threatening and irreversible in nature. Their symptoms can be managed to some extent but are not fully curable.

Sexually transmitted diseases are mostly caused by an external agent. They enter the body and takes over the immune system of human body. They attack the immune system and start working against it. There types depend upon the nature of infectious agents. These infectious agents can also transfer through sharing a needle, towel and comb. They transfer through sexual intercourse if you have not taken any precautionary measures. Following are the infectious agents that causes the onset of a sexually transmitted disease

  • Bacteria
  • Virus
  • Fungi

Sexually transmitted diseases show different symptoms when it comes to gender and physical condition of an individual. They are different for male and female both. Some of the common symptoms observed in males are

  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Unusual discharge
  • Discomfort during urination and during sex
  • Unusual bleeding from penis
  • Sores and rashes around thighs, buttocks, penis and anus
  • Swollen and painful testicles

These symptoms can vary from person to person but they are only present in gender male.

Symptoms in females appear in different form. Some of the common symptoms in females are

  • Itching and rashes around vagina
  • Bumps or sores around thigh, mouth, buttocks and sexual organs
  • Pain and discomfort during urination
  • Pain during sexual activity

Types of STDs:

There are different types of sexually transmitted diseases and they include

Human Papillomavirus:

This type of sexually transmitted disease is caused by virus named as human papillomavirus. This type of virus can transfer from one person to another through skin to skin contact which is mostly possible in case of unsafe sexual activity. In some cases it becomes cancerous but not most of the time. It can cause cancers like cervical cancer, vulvar cancer, rectal cancer and oral cancer. It cannot be treated but its vaccine is available which can protect you from getting in future.

Chlamydia:

It is caused by specific bacteria. It is mostly symptom less in start and due to this people pays very less attention to it. Its symptoms appear later and if they remain untreated they can lead to

  • Pelvic inflammatory diseases
  • Infertility
  • Infections of urethra

They can be managed with the help of antibiotics and they are the best choice for its treatment. If a pregnant female is having Chlamydia then there are chances that she can transfer it to her bay. And in that case the baby might develop eye infections and problems to lungs like pneumonia.

HIV:

This type of sexually transmitted disease is caused by a virus and it cannot be cured. It is an autoimmune disease and in which the immune system of human body start working against its own cells. They damage their own defense system and therefore it is a life threatening disease. Its symptoms gets clear with in the first month of virus attack and early ones are similar to flu. And because of it people might consider it a normal flu but later they change into

  • Recurrent episodes of fatigue
  • Stomach issues
  • Organ failure

There is no treatment for HIV but there are some alternative ways for managing its symptoms.

Syphilis:

It is a bacterial infection and is curable if caught in early stage. But unfortunately its symptoms are not visible during the early stages, with the help of advance screening it can be identified in early stages if you pay a little more attention to its symptoms and they include rashes, fever, headaches, weight loss and hair loss. But if they remain untreated they can get worse and may lead to

  • Loss of vision
  • Loss of memory
  • Heart disease

And in some rare cases it can even cause death. Its symptoms are mostly treated with the help of antibiotics.

Gonorrhea:
